Reiki FAQ's

Q. Who discovered Reiki?

A Japanese man, named Mikao Usui, first introduced reiki to the modern world. He had a satori (spiritual epiphany) after a 21- day retreat into meditation on Mount Kurama in 1922. Upon discovering that he was able to heal, he began teaching others. There are many stories about reiki, but they usually trace the lineage back to Usui.

Q. Is Reiki a religion?

A. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. There is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki, which has no dogma. Reiki will work whether you believe in it or not. Reiki is practiced by people of all major religions around the world. There is nothing you have to believe in to use or receive reiki. Reiki is not an ‘alternative’ therapy – it is a ‘complementary’ therapy in that it works alongside other medical and therapeutic techniques.

Q. Can you diagnose clients’ health problems?

A. Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatments. Reiki Practioners will never diagnose nor advise on any form of treatments. Nor will they interfere with any existing medical treatments you are being prescribed by your doctor.

Q. Are there any side effects of Reiki?

A. Reiki is a cleansing process therefore you may experience a physical and/or an emotional release within the first 24 hours after your treatment is completed. Everyone is individual, so it will vary from person to person as well as each time you receive a treatment.

Q. What are are Reiki principles

The 5 Reiki principles (or conduct), are also referred to as affirmations. Reiki Masters and Practitioners are committed to living these principles. They come from two main sources: Mikao Usui, founder of the Reiki System of Natural Healing, and Hawayo Takata, Grandmother of Western Reiki.

Q. Can anyone learn Reiki?

A: Yes. Reiki is a simple technique that anyone can learn. It is requires no prior experience with healing, or meditation. Unfortunately I am not running courses at this time. Should you be interested in learning Reiki, please click on the image below to visit London Reiki Academy for a full schedule of courses. This is where I was fortunate enough to do my training.
